They call me… Corey
Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Corey Meram. I grew
up Fallbrook, CA
which is about an hour north of San
Diego. It’s a quiet town with absolutely nothing to do
in it. I began my schooling as a sheltered child at Zion from kindergarten through fourth grade. Then
I entered into the public school system when I started attending school at Live
Oak. For middle school I went to Potter which was the worse two years of my
education. Then for High School I went to Fallbrook High which was fun. Through
the intricate caste system within the high school I was put into the
Nerd/Geek caste which was totally fine with me since that is what I am and so are my friends. During my sophomore year I joined the wrestling team which
simply put was amazing. It was also hard as all hell with practices running
from two to six or seven each night. At age 19 I moved a whopping 20miles north to Temecula were I
currently live. I started college at Palomar
College and spend two
years there trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life and started studying history. Then I transferred to San
Marcos to complete my BA in History.
When it comes to technology I would say I’m outdated which can be said about anything three seconds after it’s out of the box. I have owned a PC my entire life and love the one I have now because I am an avid gamer. I do not have a fancy phone and I do not want one. It does four things: calls people, gives me a clock, it’s a calendar, and it’s a calculator. Nothing more nothing less. I do not support apple in anyway and I despise Macs. The only thing I own from them is an ancient iPod which was a gift years ago. I do not support the use of things like skype, instant messaging services, tweet, blogs, etc. Finally, I hate texting with a passion. To me it is one of the worse things ever created and is ruining the communication skills of the masses. As I previously said I am a gamer. I have had a falling out with current gen stuff though since too much of it is about gimmicky controls and graphics now dominate games and not game-play. I am obsessed with classic games and cherish my SNES and am constantly playing it to improve my speed runs, playing games I've finally gotten my hands on after 15 years, and attempting to find as many glitches and bugs I can.
In all honesty the mission statement did not really speak to me and did not contribute to my enrolling in the program. It kind of came off as the general statement any institution should be making to prepare future educators. What motivated me to taking the credential program at San Marcos was that it was local, and was recommended by about every teacher I know.
Hi Corey! It is nice to meet you! i look forward to this semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Corey.
ReplyDeleteI can agree with some aspects of your outlook on technology. I do not skype, instant message, tweet etc either although not because I despise it but more so because I have absolutely no interest in doing so!
I completely agree with your stance on fancy phones and texting! I have an old flip phone that's a good six years old (absolutely ancient in phone years) and I made the phone company disable the texting capability. I hate reading abreviations and misspelled words, and hate typing them even more. Call me crazy, but I'd rather just talk to someone.
ReplyDeleteFOURTH! YEAHHH!!!
